Good Start by Stopping at Sta. Maria Church

It's 4:00 A.M and we're back on the road, down to Ilocos Sur from Baguio City. Our first stop, Sta. Maria Church in the Municipality of Sta. Maria, Ilocos Sur.

The church is easy to locate, aside from the signage along the road, you will notice it right away for the steps going up the church along the main highway.

The Church of Nuestra Senora de la Asuncion in Sta. Maria, Ilocos Sur is one of the four Baroque Churches found in the Philippines inscribed by UNESCO in it's World Heritage List in 1993.

It's the second World Heritage Site that I was able to visit, the first is  Miagao Church way back during my college years in U.P Iloilo.

One thing very amazing with it's structure are the walls, the amount of ingenuity in building those walls considering the kind of equipment at the time of its construction. It's location is very typical of old churches that I visited, located in a higher ground, making it another defense mechanism for the town folks.

This is amazing.......those walls
What makes it very different from other historical or tourist site I visited is there is no single souvenir stall in the area. And during our visit, we were the only group visiting at that time.
Hoping to add more to my UNESCO World Heritage Sites List.......
