Samal Island: Monfort Bat Sancturay

Back to my wanders. From Maxima Aqua Fun we decided to squeezed in a visit to the BATS of Samal. And we were right on time for the bats to fly for the night. Entrance fee at Monfort Bat Sanctuary varies depending on the time of your visit, a night viewing is a bit higher than a day visit, but that's why we are here, to witness the bats' Circadian flight.
Monfort Bat Sanctuary is a Guiness World Record holder, as the biggest single colony of its kind, the Geoffrey Rousette Fruit Bat. During our visit we are the only group they had for the night. We get to talked with Manong, who guided us around. According to Manong, the caves were created during the Japanese occupation, they were remnants of bombs dropped in the island.
A visit to the bat sactuary opened my eyes to the positive effects have in the environment. It was getting dark when we arrived, we made a quick tour to all four caves, there is even a cave for nursing bats or a maternity ward. A piece of advise, be ready for the strong smell of amonia from the bat's poop.

Monfort Bat Sanctuary is located at Circumferential Road, Babak District, Samal Island.
